The Harbour, Community pages

Safety for parents and carers

What Lunara’s community pages are, what Lunara checks before anything shows, what a young person sees, and how to report something.

What these pages are

Lunara is a game played inside Discord, the chat app: players collect animated pixel heroes, called Lunari, take on raid bosses together and trade with friends. People play it in Discord servers, which are online groups run by their own members.

A server that plays Lunara can have a page here, on lunarabot.gg, so other players can find it. A page shows the server’s name, what it is about, its safety settings in Discord, how active it is, and what its members think of it. Signed-in visitors can upvote a page, review it, and report it.

Lunara is not Discord, and is not affiliated with it. Joining a server happens in Discord, under Discord’s rules and the server’s own. Discord requires everyone to be at least 13, or older where the law says so.

What Lunara checks

  • A person checks every page before it shows, and again after every change: its name, its words and every link. No setting lets a server skip that.
  • Some servers are never listed, including anything for gambling, betting, dating, drugs or alcohol, buying and selling accounts, cheats, scams, and servers made for children under 13.
  • Nothing is paid for joining, upvoting or reviewing, and a server that offers anything for them is hidden. Lunara never rewards a young person for joining a server.
  • Reviews are filtered and moderated. They carry no links, invites or contact details, and a review is never posted with its writer’s name. Anyone signed in can report one.
  • Lunara never sends anyone a private message about these pages, in Discord or anywhere else.

What a young person sees by default

  • General servers only. The directory’s lists and shelves show servers rated General. Servers rated Mature themes, which are meant for adults but not sexual, such as horror or strong language, appear only in search after someone chooses to see them, and on their own pages, each with its label.
  • The NSFW view is hidden by default. Servers for adults, labelled 18+ NSFW, are never in the lists, in search for everyone, on a server’s own address or anywhere in Discord. Lunara shows them only in a separate NSFW view, as text only (no pictures), and only to someone signed in with a Discord account at least 30 days old who confirms they are 18 or older. Lunara refuses accounts it knows belong to someone under 18. That view is switched off at the moment.
  • No ad networks and no tracking cookies. These pages carry no adverts from other companies. Visits are counted only as totals, without cookies.
  • Sponsored servers are marked “Ad”. Some servers can pay Lunara to be shown for a week in a separate row headed “Sponsored”, on the directory’s first page and on tag pages, each card marked “Ad”. Only General servers can, and paying never changes the list itself (see About sponsored servers). That row isn’t running yet.
  • Nothing that pulls them back. Lists end, with plain pages rather than endless scrolling; there are no notifications, streaks or reminders to come back and upvote; and nothing is ever suggested from what they looked at before.

Reading a server’s safety settings

Every server’s page shows the settings it has switched on in Discord, as Discord reports them, with the date Lunara last checked:

  • Verification level: what a new member must have, such as a verified email, before they can chat.
  • Rules: a rules channel, and whether new members must agree to the rules before they chat.
  • Moderators need two-factor sign-in: moderators’ accounts are harder to take over.
  • AutoMod: Discord’s own filter for harmful messages.
  • Discord’s image filter: whether Discord scans images members send.
  • 18+ channels: how many channels Discord age-gates for adults.

In the directory’s search, “Higher safety settings” finds servers with all five of these: a verification level of Medium or higher, moderators who need two-factor sign-in, Discord’s image filter on for everyone, a rules channel, and AutoMod on.

No setting makes a server safe on its own. They show how a server is set up, not how its people behave.

What Lunara keeps about them

Reading the pages needs no account. Upvoting and reviewing need a Discord sign-in and a Discord account at least 30 days old, and reviewing needs 7 days as a member of the server. Anyone signed in can report, and anyone at all can report by email. Lunara keeps those by the person’s Discord ID, never with a name on show. It counts visits only as totals for each page and day, and never knows who visited.

In Discord, /data export gives a copy of what Lunara keeps, and /data delete deletes it. If you believe a child under 13 has used these pages, email support@lunarabot.gg: their reviews and upvotes are deleted, apart from what an undecided report or a review ban still needs, kept without their Discord ID, and the account is blocked from these pages. The privacy policy says the rest.

If something is wrong

If a child is in danger right now, call your local emergency number first.

  • On a page: anyone signed in can press Report on a page, a review or a reply. A report that a child may be at risk, of a threat to someone’s life, of an intimate image or of sexual content, from a Discord account at least 30 days old, pauses the page at once while Lunara’s team looks; one from a newer account is the first thing the team looks at.
  • By email, without an account: Report illegal content by email or Ask us to remove an intimate image. If you are reporting child sexual abuse, you don’t have to give your name or email.
  • What happens: an intimate image is removed within 48 hours of a valid request, and suspected child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). A page reported by 3 different people with established Discord accounts, for something serious, is hidden until a moderator looks.
  • Inside Discord: for something in a server itself, report it to Discord too. Discord’s Safety Center has guidance for parents and carers, including its Family Center.

The community rules list every report reason and how quickly Lunara acts on each.
