About sponsored servers

Some servers pay Lunara to be shown in a separate row marked “Ad”, for a week. Here is what that buys, and what it never does.

The Sponsored row

The Sponsored row isn’t running yet. This is how it will work when it does.

Some servers pay Lunara to be shown in a row of their own, headed “Sponsored”, for a week. The row sits on the directory’s first page and on tag pages, apart from the list, and says on it, every time:

These servers paid Lunara to be shown in this row for a week. Paying is not part of the order of the list below.

  • Every card in it is marked “Ad”, before the server’s name, and says “Paid for by this server’s owners”.
  • At most 6 servers share the row in a week, from Monday to Sunday (UTC), in a fresh order on each visit.
  • A server can be in it at most 4 weeks in a row, and then takes a week off.
  • It is never in search, on language pages, on a server’s own page or anywhere in Discord.

What a sponsored week never buys

  • A place in the list. A sponsored server keeps its own place in the main list, from upvotes, the Server League, reviews and newness; the row is extra. Nothing a server pays Lunara moves it up or down.
  • Members, joins or clicks. A week buys time in the row, and nothing that happens because of it.
  • Upvotes or reviews, or any say over them.
  • Anything inside Discord: no message, role, badge or command.

Only servers rated General can be sponsored. Servers rated Mature themes, 18+ NSFW servers and servers made for children under 13 never can.

Every ad is checked first

An ad is the server’s name, its icon and one line of up to 80 characters, in the server’s own words. One of Lunara’s moderators checks it before it is paid for, and a sponsored server must keep to the community rules all week. An ad can’t offer rewards for joining or inviting, ask for “join for join”, name a price or a giveaway, claim to be the biggest or the best, carry a link, or show anything sexual, gambling, betting, dating, drugs, alcohol or crypto. It can’t sell Robux, Nitro, boosts, accounts or servers, or advertise other servers. An ad that breaks the rules is taken out of the row.

Report an ad

Every card in the row has its own “Report this ad”, which works like reporting a page (see reporting). An emergency report on an ad takes the ad out of the row at once while Lunara’s team looks. Anyone can report by email too: Report illegal content by email.
