Accessibility
What we aim for
lunarabot.gg aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It has not yet been audited by an independent tester, so this is a statement of what we build and check, not a certificate.
It covers the public pages of this website: the home page, the command list, the chests, the leaderboards, the market, the Server League, the community pages and their rules, and the privacy policy and terms. The dashboard for server admins is being redesigned to the same standard, and Lunara inside Discord uses Discord’s own app, with its own accessibility settings.
What the site does
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, in reading order, with a skip link to the main content and a visible focus ring on every surface, at every hour of the site’s sky.
- Pages read without JavaScript. Every word, link and table is in the page itself; scripts add extras, such as the Pause motion switch.
- Movement stops when you ask. If your device asks for reduced motion, nothing moves by itself. The Pause motion switch at the foot of every page stops every animation for this browser too. Nothing flashes more than three times a second.
- Text you need to read is at least 15 px, apart from the few places listed below; longer text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface made for low vision, and pixel lettering is kept to short labels.
- Colours are checked when the site is built: a pair of text and background colours below the contrast WCAG asks for stops the build. Colour is never the only way something is shown.
- Pages reflow to 320 pixels wide and zoom to 400% without scrolling sideways, and on phones buttons, filter chips and the menu are at least 44 pixels tall.
- Pictures have text. Decoration is hidden from screen readers; pictures that carry meaning say what they show; forms and buttons have names.
- High contrast modes such as Windows’ keep borders, labels and the state of every control.
What we know still falls short
- The dashboard for server admins, and Lunara’s own console, have not been brought up to this standard yet; their redesign is under way.
- Some short labels and buttons use a pixel typeface, which some readers find harder going than plain text.
- A few lines are still smaller than 15 px: on the command list, each command’s labels (such as its cooldown), its options and the line saying a server can switch it off, and on the chests page, each chest’s description.
- Links inside a paragraph, in the trail at the top of a page, in the privacy and terms pages’ contents and in the footer, and the logo at the top, are smaller targets than the buttons.
- Server icons, names and descriptions are written by each server. Lunara’s moderators check them, but not for how well they read.
- The sky at the top of each page changes colour with the time of day. Its text is checked against every one of those colours, but the picture behind it changes.
